CALL FOR COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON THE PROPOSED SENTUO OIL REFINERY AT THE TEMA HEAVY INDUSTRIAL AREA ENDS ON FRIDAY, 31ST JULY 2020
The Environmental Protection Agency, per statutory requirements, received a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited on a proposed Sentuo Oil Refinery Project to be located in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area, precisely within the Chemu catchment area (Figures 1 and 2). The proponent (Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited) is proposing to develop a refinery that would process 1.5 million metric tons of sour crude oil per year. In accordance with the Environmental Assessment Regulations 1999, LI 1652, public notices were put in national newspapers and the EPA websites for public comments within 21days.

HIGH LEVEL MEETING AT MOVENPICK AMBASSADOR HOTEL
A breakfast meeting was organized on Friday 7th June, 2019 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra to introduce and outdoor Environmental Sensitivity Areas (ESA) mapping initiative and its implementation to the sector ministers and heads of identified institutions. In attendance were the chief executive officers from EPA, Water Resources Commission, NADMO, Survey and Mapping Division, GOGIG, LUPSA, GIDA and representatives from Fisheries commission, Center for Wetlands, GNPC, GTA, MESTI, Forestry Commission (Wildlife and Forestry services division).

Participating institutions agreed to cooperate and pledged their availability to provide data to ensure the successful implementation of the ESA initiative.
Aker Energy Ghana Limited (Aker Energy) Final ESIA Scoping Report DWT CTP-ESL-S-TB
The Agency has received a Scoping Report from Aker Energy Ghana Limited in respect of the Deepwater Tano Cape Three points (DWTCTP) Block Development. The report is to guide the developer in the conduct of the environmental impact assessment of the development and is being published accordance with Regulation 15 of the Environmental Assessment Regulations 1999, LI 1652. Comments are invited from the general public and interested parties on the proposal for the said development.

A thorough assessment of risks – and potential opportunities - is crucial for governments to make informed policy decisions before opening up areas for oil and gas activities.
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) allows governments to develop a holistic view of the issues that may arise from oil and gas activities in a specific region. Oil and gas production will influence the environment and people living in affected areas.
SEAs are well-established governance measures of best international practice. Through the Norwegian Oil for Development (OfD) programme, support has been offered to such assessments in several countries around the world. Two examples from Uganda and Ghana are described further below.Read More
